I remember binge-watching this K-drama on a gloomy weekend with my closest friend. We were prepared with food, popcorn, and a tonne of emotions, and believe me, it really was an emotional rollercoaster! The friendship between Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook made us fangirl, cry, and laugh uncontrollably. Their bromance was pure gold! Their witty banter and unwavering loyalty are bromance goals, keeping us laughing and rooting for their epic friendship. Meanwhile, the romance between the immortal goblin, Kim Shin, and the spunky mortal, Ji Eun-tak, is a fairytale that defies time and space. Their love story is heartwarming and swoon-worthy, making us believe in eternal connections. Goblin delivers a perfect blend of romance and bromance that'll leave you smiling and reaching for the tissues all at once! Oh, and don't even start me on the epic soundtrack; I still have it in my playlist. Every lunch break, "Goblin" became my go-to subject, and I would discuss every narrative twist like seasoned sleuths.

Goblin definitely soared as a K-Drama force, bagging numerous awards, including Best Drama at Baeksang Arts. Gong Yoo and Kim Go-eun won Best Actor and Best New Actress, respectively. Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook won Best Couple for their sizzling chemistry. With its original plot and stellar cast, this K-drama left a lasting mark, earning well-deserved acclaim worldwide.

All I can say is, Goblin will make you burst out in tears, laughter, and you’ll get a few spooky chills along the way. This captivating tale will give you lessons on friendship,  love, and the eternal quest for redemption. Let's go!

Plot:

Imagine a 939-year-old goblin named Kim Shin who has been doomed to live forever until he meets the woman who will help him break the curse. Talk about unending love, huh? The surprise, however, is that Wang Yeo, a charming grim reaper with memory problems, is also travelling with him.

When Kim Shin meets Ji Eun-tak, a vivacious and amnesic young woman, things become even more fascinating. Unbeknownst to her, she has a tragically intriguing connection to Kim Shin's history. As a result, fate intervenes, and their lives are interwoven in a string of unanticipated happenings, creating an emotional rollercoaster that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end.

With its modern-day setting in Seoul, Goblin tells a compelling story of love, friendship, and the search for redemption while also incorporating stunning graphics and mind-blowing plot turns that will leave you speechless.

The Leads as the Characters:

Kim Shin: Kim Shin, portrayed by the breathtakingly attractive Gong Yoo, is the epitome of a brooding, enigmatic goblin. He's actually 939 years old—talk about elderly! But when you're cursed with immortality, age really is only a number, am I right? Despite his strong exterior, Kim Shin is actually a softie who longs for his true love to liberate him from the curse and break the spell.

Wang Yeo: Wang Yeo is played by the amazing Lee Dong-wook. With his tall, dark, and dapper aura, this guy is totally in the mood. The twist is that he struggles with recollection and is constantly attempting to piece together his enigmatic background. Amnesia story twist, am I right? While he travels through the afterlife with attitude and elegance, you'll find yourself crying and laughing at the same time. Additionally, Kim Shin and Wang Yeo's bromance is the stuff of legends!

Ji Eun-tak: Ji Eun-tak, portrayed by the great Kim Go-eun, is the Goblin’s bride. She embodies cuteness with her cheery grin and quirky personality. But don't be fooled by her cute appearance; she is hiding some mystical mysteries as well as a tragic background. In the most unexpected way, Eun-tak and Kim Shin's lives become entwined, and let me tell you—their chemistry is on fire

Things I Liked Personally about the Kdrama:

1. Unforgettable Soundtrack

I've to admit the soundtrack in Goblin was breathtaking and mesmerising, perfectly balancing the emotions on screen. I mean, I still have the OST in my playlist and it has been ages!

The soundtrack "Beautiful" by Crush, is unquestionably my favourite song. Despite not being the song's original version, his rendition is quite wonderful. This song is just too beautiful, so I'm not sure how many times I've played it.

2. Strong Female Lead

Not to mention, Ji Eun-tak was a total badass! She wasn't your average damsel in distress; she had her own inner strength and resolve, and throughout the series, I admired her for her courage.

All in all, "Goblin" was an unforgettable K-Drama experience that checked all the boxes for me - fantasy, bromance, romance, and emotional rollercoasters.

3. Fantasy meets Comedy

Fantasy and humour are like the perfect K-Drama duo, and Goblin nailed it! When it comes to mixing comedy with any genre, K-dramas are experts, and Goblin is no exception. This show had me laughing out loud with its charming and witty humour that never felt forced or over the top. It was just the right amount of funny to keep us entertained while balancing the intense drama. It's like a cool breeze on a hot summer day - you know it's coming, and you welcome it with open arms.

But hold up, the real MVP of comedy in Goblin was none other than the Grim Reaper himself! Played by the super-talented Lee Dong-wook, his hilarious antics stole the show. Seriously, combining a fantastic performer with a strong character and a bit of cluelessness is a recipe for comedic gold!
