In the jewelry box called "Querencia," a new diva of K-pop is discovered.
The presence of divas in the history of Korean music is particularly special. Kim Chooja, who led the Shin Joong Hyun Band in the late 1960s, opened up a new world of psychedelic rock and soul, showcasing a radical and sensual charisma akin to Janis Joplin and Betty Davis. Kim Wan Sun, who led the era of 80s New Wave K-pop, was the pioneer of dance music, highlighting New Wave rock and synth-pop. In the 90s, Um Jung Hwa presented trendier visuals and sensuous music, while Lee Hyori brought authentic hip-hop and R&B sounds to mainstream K-pop, and BoA's leap as a global pop star changed the paradigm of K-pop, marking a pivotal moment in an era.
In today's K-pop scene, who will continue this lineage of divas? In recent years, amid a market dominated by group units, Chungha has captivated audiences with explosive energy as a performer and mesmerizing vocals as a solo artist, solidifying her position and proving her potential through her career. Collaborating with artists from various scenes and genres, from idols to R&B and hip-hop artists, to 88rising's Rich Brian, Chungha has expanded her boundaries and evolved her style.
Her first full-length album, showcased in the jewelry box "Querencia," demonstrates a more daring direction and richly detailed musical experimentation.
